Bass Hunter Boats vs Jonny Boats vs Aleko- The Best Fishing Boat Brands

Bass Hunter Boats vs Jonny Boats vs Aleko- The Best Fishing Boat Brands

So, you are a passionate angler, and you are looking to buy a small fishing boat. It’s a considerable investment and you want to make sure you get the best choice. Well, you have come to the right spot! In this article, we will review 3 of the best fishing boat brands that are out there and go through all of their models. We will analyze why we think they are the best options.

Just like your rod and reel, a fishing boat is a tool you must have to be able to perform at your best when you go fishing. The goal of this article is to inform you of what we think are the best fishing boats you can buy, but the decision of choosing the fishing boat brand and model will depend on individual factors that vary from one person to another.

JONNY BOATS BASS 100 IN ACTION BASS FISHING KAYAK BOAT HYBRID

When you buy a small fishing boat, you have to look at what it does and how it performs. Does the fishing boat you are looking at have good stability? Do you have a place in your house where you can store your fishing boat? How are you planning on transporting your fishing boat, do you have a pick up truck or are you willing to buy a boat trailer? Does it have the necessary things to upgrade to stuff like electronics and trolling motors?

In this article we are going to review one brand that makes solid boats for ponds and lakes (Bass Hunter Boats), one brand that makes a very peculiar type of product. They create hybrid boats/kayaks (Jonny Boats) and another brand that creates great inflatable boats that you can use on ponds, lakes, rivers (Class 1 only) and bay areas (Aleko). One one-piece solid boat, one hybrid kayak boat and one inflatable boat.

Well, with that being said, let’s get into it!

BASS HUNTER BOATS

Bass Hunter Fishing Boats Logo

Bass Hunter Boats has been building bass fishing boats for over 40 years. That’s a long time and a lot of experience! With 3 boat models for you to choose from, each one of Bass Hunter’s models will provide you with massive durability and quiet stability which will massively help you to land the fish. Bass Hunter Boats are a simply a very solid fishing platform.

One very important factor to consider about Bass Hunter Boats is that they are wide. The wider a boat is, the more stability it will have. If you are looking for stability, Bass Hunter is a no brainer. They are also very quiet, so you won’t spook fish away.

One big thing about Bass Hunter Boats is that all 3 models fit on the bed of a full size pick-up truck, so transportation shouldn’t be a problem.

Another big differentiator of Bass Hunter Boats is that they are one piece molded. This is very important. When you have a boat that is made with several pieces, there will be a possibility of having some pieces that are loose and they might eventually come off or even break. Actually, this rule applies to almost any object you can think of buying (even shoes!). The fewer pieces an item has, the better the quality, and with boats, if it has more than one piece (two or more glued pieces), it means its lower quality:

Here are some of the features all Bass Hunter Boats have:

Bass Hunter Features- Storage bag containers

Storage bag containers so you have somewhere to put the stuff you are not using.

Molded in drink holders- bass hunter features

Drink holders so you can leave your drink on the side while you land your fish.
Tall side rails- Bass Hunter features
Tall side rails to have your rod and reel in place.
Bass Hunter Features- Molded Handles

Molded Handles.

Transom Gusset- Bass Hunter Features

Transom Gusset which will add strength to the boat.

Bass Hunter Features- Construction filled with foam
The construction is filled with foam, which will help you float better and it also makes the boat more solid.

Bass Hunter Features- One Piece Molded

Like we mentioned earlier, it’s a one piece item.

Contoured Bottom- Bass Hunter Features

The bottom is contoured so it will make it easier for you to handle and it will give you better stability.

Upgraded Seat Options

Bass Hunter Boats gives you the option to upgrade your seats to more comfortable and optimal seats for $85. If you wish, you can upgrade your seats to either of these 2:

Recommended Trolling Motor For Bass Hunter Boats

  • 55 lbs of thrust will work for most situations.
  • Bow Mounted, Foot controlled – Get the Motor Guide Bulldog.
  • Transom Mounted – Go for the Minnkota® Endura C-2 Series.

Bass Hunter Boats are not pre-wired for a trolling motor. The best way to go about this is to run the wire under a floor mat.

An outboard motor will fit on it, but you will require the Transom Extension Kit.

Ok! We’ve got that covered. Now lets jump into each model:

Although it is advertised as a two man fishing boat, we actually recommend using this one as a one man fishing boat. It will be a little bit tight if you use it for 2 people. If you’re shooting for a 2 person fishing boat, we suggest you to go for the Bass Hunter EX or the Bass Hunter BH-120.

Now, let’s move on to the next brand:

Jonny Boats- Bass 100 As A Boat

The stability of this boat is reasonably good. Even with your weight shifted to one side while standing up, it feels quite stable.

The stern (back part of the boat) is nice and high. Even with a motor on it, it still remains high. They did a good job on that.

On the motor kits, you will find steering that is up by your lap and you will have forward and backward clutch control. If you are planning to use a gas motor, you will be able to set the throttles and have all your controls at your cockpit.

If you are there to fish, the Jonny Boat- Bass 100 is simply a great option. It will let you go from one spot to another quickly and effortlessly. Although, if you decide to go with the motor instead of paddling, you won’t get the exercise. But, here is the cool part, you can combine paddling and using the motor simultaneously.

Another advantage is that you can have a set up with a motor that is allowed in Kayak Bass Fishing tournaments. This is a big advantage over everyone else.

Jonny Boats- Bass 100 As A Kayak

The Jonny Boat Bass 100 is kind of hard to paddle. It’s because it has a squared shape, the amount of water you have to paddle through is pretty big. We would not recommend to get Bass 100 by Jonny Boats if you are planning to paddle long distances. Although, if you are on a little pond or a lake, it will work perfectly fine. Just be aware that it is a little bit slow when you paddle it. But once again,  the great thing about the Jonny Boat is that you can alternate the motor and the paddling to your convenience.

The Jonny Boat Bass 100 is a Sit On Top kayak boat, which is better because you won’t have any trouble getting in or out of the boat when you launch your boat, when you happen to fall out, and you the ability to stand up when you want.

Like we said earlier, if paddling is a big decision factor for you, then we recommend that you get a fishing kayak, but if you are planning to motorize the boat, then this is a fantastic option.

Stability

For a 10 ft. boat, it has good stability. But, once again, for a 10 ft. boat. In comparison to other options, we would say that it is stable enough. If stability is something big for you over everything else, then go for the Bass Hunter. But if you are just wondering if it has good stability, the answer is yes. It’s not one of the strengths of this boat but it definitely delivers.

In a Nutshell- The Bass 100

There is a reason why we decided to put the Bass 100 on a fishing boat blog post instead of a fishing kayak blog post. We think the Bass 100 by Jonny Boats is more of a boat than it is a kayak. It can definitely work as a kayak, but it’s more of a boat, and a very good one. But, Jonny Boats does not make kayaks or boats. What they do make is a combination of both, a combination of a modern Jon Boat and a Kayak, which makes it have the best of both worlds. If you use it as what it is, a boat and a kayak, it is a unique product, and it is very definitely one of the best options out there, at least in our opinion.

In What Situation Should You Choose Jonny Boats?

  • Choose Jonny Boats if you are looking for something that does not limit you to just the boat features or just the kayak features, but you would like to have the best of both worlds.

  • Choose Jonny Boats if you are planning to paddle short distances.

  • Choose Jonny Boats if you want to be able to customize and/or modify your boat as much as you want, either for boating or kayaking.

  • Choose Jonny Boats if you want to use simultaneously the motor and paddling simultaniously when you move from one place to another.

  • Choose Jonny Boats if you are looking to participate in Kayak Bass Fishing tournaments.

  • Choose Jonny Boats if you are looking a boat for 1 person.

We love Jonny Boats! What do you think?

Let's move on to the next brand:

ALEKO

ALEKO BOATS LOGO

Aleko is a family owned business that has been around since 2005. Although they are not specialized in only building boats or fishing supplies, they do have a good variety of inflatable fishing boats and they are amazing! We decided to choose Aleko for this top 3 list because they deliver high quality products at a reasonable price. All of their boats come with a one year warranty.

All of their boats share many of the features. Let's look into them.

Aleko Inflatable Boats Features

All of Aleko's models share the many of the same features. Let’s talk about them.

These gorgeous fishing boats can be used on saltwater and freshwater. They are high performance and heavy duty inflatable fishing boats designed for all types of anglers. Aleko’s boats are very easy to transport, they are very light and the assembly is very simple.

ALEKO INFLATABLE BOAT

One thing we really love about these inflatable fishing boats is that they have several built in features that can come in very handy, such as: rope grab line so you can carry it and it also provides stability, an all around long lasting rubber strike which will prevent damage. The internal chambers are apart from each other so you will be safe in case there is an air leak, and they have a safety valve that will stop you from overinflating your boat.  When it comes to safety, these boats really take care of that part.

They are coated with anti corrosive PVC and they are reinforced with polyester so you have a long lasting fishing boat.

About the motor

When you take your boat out of the box for the first time, it will come with 2 aluminium oars. But in case you want to use a motor instead, we recommend a two-and four-stroke motor that weighs no more than 150 lbs. The Aleko Pro Fishing Boat has been tested and it was designed to fit 15 in. short shaft outboard motors and 20 in. long shaft motors. If you are looking to get your boat to perform at its best, our suggestion is to use a 15 in. short shaft outboard.

Ok, let’s get into this! We will go reviewing their products by each series. Let’s start with their Aleko’s Pro Fishing Boats series.

Aleko- PRO Fishing Boats Series With Aluminum Floor

The PRO Fishing Boat by Aleko comes with aluminum floor, which is great for handling sharp material. It’s very protective, and it’s hard to damage the floor. Also, because of the hardness, it’s very stable. If you are thinking of taking your pet, it will be harder for it to damage the floor.

The PRO Fishing Boat comes with four installed rod holders, and it has a board on the front where you can cut your bait, clean the catch, among other things.

Aleko- Boats With Air Floor

Just like we mentioned before, all the models share a lot of the same features. The Boats With Air Floor can also be used on freshwater and saltwater. The air mat floor is incredibly made with a lot of criss-crossing polyester threads, and that lets you fill the boat with air at a high pressure. It’s almost as hard and solid as a wooden floor, but it is very stable and it allows some flexibility.

An air floor is a flat floor which you can inflate. One of the advantages of the air floor is that it’s easier to store. The air floors let you fill them with air with high pressure.

Advantages And Disadvantages

So, what are the advantages of an air floor? Basically, the air floor boats by Aleko are easy to store, they give you a very light boat, and they have enough hardness and rigidness to provide very good stability. Also, Aleko’s boat air floors are very comfortable if you sit or kneel on them because they are very soft.

One thing you should ask yourself is if you are going to travel with your boat. If you are, the Aleko Boat with Air Floor is a very good option, because it can deflate to a very small and compact size.

Now let’s go to the disadvantages. One of the disadvantages of an air floor is that its lightness will cause it to be less stable at higher speeds. There is also another factor you should consider. If you are planning on using your boat in cold water for long periods of time, you are better off with an aluminum or wooden floor. Cold water temperatures will cause the air molecules inside of the air floor to shrink, thus, it will lose its rigidness.

Another thing you should consider is if you are going to leave your boat inflated for long periods of time. If you are, the air floor is not a very good option, because it loses air and rigidness after long periods of time, and you are going to have to inflate it over and over again. A rigid surface is best if this is the case.

Aleko- Boats With Wood Floor

The more rigid the floor is, the more stable it is. Thus, that is an advantage for wood (and aluminum) Aleko boats. The Aleko Boats With Wood Floor boat come with three keel air chambers and they are secured between the wood floor and the outer layer. This will make the boat harder, more rigid and more durable.

But there two other things you should consider. Are you going to inflate and deflate your boat every time you use it/not use it, or are you going to leave it inflated for long periods of time? This is why you should consider this: if you are going to leave your Aleko inflatable boat with air most of the time, a rigid floor like wood or aluminum will be the best option. This is because rigid floors don’t lose air and rigidness after being inflated for long periods of time, while air floors do lose air and you have to inflate them over and over again.

The other thing you should consider is if you are going to travel with your boat. If you are, probably the air floor is your best bet, since it can be deflated to a very compact size which is very easy to transport.
