How Much Does a Kayak Cost? Kayak Price Chart Comparison

If you are looking to buy a kayak and you want to have an idea of how much they cost in average, you came to the perfect spot! We gathered that information for you in this article. The goal of this article is to give you a panorama of how much kayaks cost, so you can have a perspective on what is cheap and what is expensive.

A whitewater kayak costs between $850 and $1300. Fishing kayaks are in the $750 and $1,100 price range. Recreational kayaks tend to cost between $400 and $650. Sea kayaks usually cost between $1,000 and $1,350. Inflatable kayaks are in the $500 and $800 price range. Folding kayaks will cost between $600 and $1,000. If you are looking for a tandem, it will cost between $500 and $800. Used kayaks typically cost between 25% and 50% their original price, depending on how old they are and it’s conditions.

We will not give you arbitrary numbers. We will put together 7 models so you can compare them. We will do this for each type of kayak: whitewater, fishing, recreational and touring. With that being said, let’s get into this!

How much does a used kayak cost?

Of course this can widely varie. Assuming the kayak you are buying is in a good state, you will usually pay 25% to 50% less of its original price. This also depends on how old is the kayak you are buying.

What influences the price of a kayak?

Usually, the price of a kayak is influenced by the materials it’s made with and the features it has. Anything above and below the price range that we will give you in this article will be considered expensive or cheap, respectively. Although there is a direct correlation between the price and quality of a kayak, it’s not a golden rule. There will always be brands that over deliver in quality in relation to price (SeaStream Kayaks is distinguished by that). And actually, that is often the case with smaller brands. That is a good reason to buy from smaller brands instead of the big box names.
